The text talks about who is the highest paid soccer player in the world today (6/09/2011). The conflict is that David Beckham and Marta Vieira da Silva are both good on soccer. But Marta has been seen as the best soccer player in the world, nonetheless, David earns more money than her, and this is unfair.
We chose this text because we thought that is an interesting article, and that is unfair what they are doing with Marta, we were entertained by it.
NY times portrayed the Brazilian culture very well, showing the necessary facts to explain what was going on in the country.
Do you think that this case is fair or unfair?
I liked the story and yes it's unfair. I live in the United States and I appreciate the story because I like when our media gives the proper recognition to someone as great as Marta.
ResponderExcluirThis kind of unfairness is normal, though. Britney Spears isn't the greatest singer, but her image has her on top. Beckham is the same, his image is easily relatable to many people. So it's not always about hot great someone plays the game, but how well they play the fame.
I liked the story because the author put Marta under the spotlight, which shows that women are recognized for being good in soccer, sport that was once something only for men.

Very nice choice of article!! Women and men should be treated as equal and their salaries should only be based on their talent/skills/achievements never on gender. Congrats for the blog! Keep up the good work!!

I think that a unfair happend because, I my opinion i think that history influences in the action , and in this case beckham wares loots more than Marta, but analasing in other perspective Marta should win more than Beckham.

Its an very intersting fact, because there are doctors or cops that dont get as much money as soccer players, i think that isn't far, but we can't do nothing abou it!!!

I think that is very unfair the difference about the payment of female soccer player. But is not a good comparison David and Marta, because David is a very important player in the whole history, and the money that he earned is not just about soccer, but the comercial and his carrer in the fashion world.
ResponderExcluirThe female soccer became more important in the world, and this is growing day by day, is just a matter of time.

I think this is unfair because she is a really important name on soccer nowadays, but the big deal about Beckham's salary is his marketing apelling that is really profitable than her, since the men's soccer is the sport with more influence in the all world, so that's the reason he earns more because he is more profitable, and once the woman soccer is getting more seen this is goig to chance.

In my opinion, these things couldn't be happening in our society now-a-days. For me, if Marta was elected one of the best in soccer, she should earn as much money as David, that was also picked as one of them. I understand that in football carrer is not just the games that count, but the marketing and vallue of the image. But once we are talking about football, both of them should get the same payment

In my opinion, the difference between the salaries of the both players (Martha and Beckham) is proportional to the gain that the teams have with them. It's correct that is an unfairness this contrast of wage, but there is no why the clubs should invest unnecesarily to somewhere there is no return.
ResponderExcluirBut we should know that it's not in such a place as this (the soccer), that is completely "maled", that the prejudice with women will end.
The change must come from the roots, from the society, from ourselves.

I think this is a very unfair case because if Marta is better than Beckham, she deserves to earn more money than him. - laura perin
ResponderExcluirI think beckam should win more money than Marta because even though Marta is the best soccer olayer in the world she is from the female category which doesnt get that much atention and that much gains as the male soccer.

I agree with you, thats very unfair with Marta, I think the two soccer players should earn the same salary, because Marta as good as David.
